Ethics and Artificial Intelligence: what is the real dilemma? - DeltalogiX

#artificialintelligence

It's been years since Artificial Intelligence became part of our everyday language. Yet, even today, we refer to this technology as humanizing it. The question "is Artificial Intelligence ethical?" is a poorly posed question because it assumes that the technology has consciousness. Instead, it is a tool whose effects depend solely on the programming done by humans. However, understanding what design boundaries should not be crossed helps limit its risks.

Taming the Terminator: Law, ethics and artificial intelligence

#artificialintelligence

Seth Lazar is a Professor in the School of Philosophy at the ANU, lead CI on the ARC grant'Ethics and Risk', director of a Templeton World Charity Foundation project on'Moral Skill and Artificial Intelligence', and project leader of the major interdisciplinary research project: Humanising Machine Intelligence. In 2019, he was awarded the ANU Vice Chancellor's award for excellence in research. A central focus of his early work on the ethics of war was the necessity of taking an approach more grounded in political philosophy than in moral philosophy--the same redirection is necessary for work on the morality, law and politics of data and AI. He is also an Area Editor at Ergo, an editor of Philosophers' Imprint, and on the editorial board of Oxford Studies in Political Philosophy.

SIENNA and SHERPA training on ethics and artificial intelligence for European Commission Sherpa Project

#artificialintelligence

The development and use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) will have both social and ethical impact. Because this technology has consequences for society, these are also key topics that need to be addressed by researchers and policymakers. And right now, the European Union is funding two projects addressing these issues under the "Science for and with Society" funding scheme: SIENNA and SHERPA, that will bring results that can help shape the ethical framework on new technological developments. During the workshop, participants will discuss a variety of topics, ranging from the application and impact of AI, and its social acceptance to standardisation efforts, ethics by design and regulatory options. The workshop is tailored to offer scientific support to policymakers to help them make informed decisions regarding the deployment and development of AI in EU funded projects.

Ethics and Artificial Intelligence: 3 questions with Cécile... AXA

#artificialintelligence

Cécile Wendling also led a roundtable on governance tools for responsible AI during the conference organized by Impact AI on AXA's Java site on January 25, 2019. Artificial intelligence will impact insurance in several ways. First of all, it can help change the way insurance companies interact with customers and improve the customer experience. Take the example of damage occurring overnight during a major disaster. At a time when a traditional call center may be closed or busy, we can now imagine customers contacting a chat bot or voice bot to get instructions on the first steps to take in case of damage.

Ethics And Artificial Intelligence With IBM Watson's Rob High

#artificialintelligence

Listen to The Modern Customer Podcast with Rob High here. Artificial intelligence seems to be popping up everywhere, and it has the potential to change nearly everything we know about data and the customer experience. However, it also brings up new issues regarding ethics and privacy. One of the keys to keeping AI ethical is for it to be transparent, says Rob High, vice president and chief technology officer of IBM Watson. When customers interact with a chatbot, for example, they need to know they are communicating with a machine and not an actual human.

Ethics and Artificial Intelligence: The Moral Compass of a Machine

#artificialintelligence

The question of robotic ethics is making everyone tense. We worry about the machine's lack of empathy, how calculating machines are going to know how to do the right thing, and even how we are going to judge and punish beings of steel and silicon. I am less concerned about robots doing wrong, and far more concerned about the moment they look at us and are appalled at how often we fail to do right. I am convinced that they will not only be smarter than we are, but have truer moral compasses, as well. Let's be clear about what is and is not at issue here.
